Work Space Work

The All Wheel Drive (AWD) manufacturing site was a major Dunstable landmark, and its demolition in 2005 following years of neglect symbolised Britainís changing industrial landscape. The area has suffered many job losses and plant closures as global industries restructure to face intense new competition. Dunstableís emerging industrial strengths are largely in distribution and specialised light industry, based at the new AWD Future site and the adjacent Woodside Estate.

The Work Space Work project has seen leading photographer Martin Figura documenting and interpreting this process of change, and its impact on the local environment and peopleís lives. Martin has been working with local businesses and their employees to produce memorable images of Dunstable and its potential as a location for business.

Work Space Work has been funded by Pro Logis, Co Tops Ltd, South Bedfordshire District Council and Arts & Business.
